Matthew 4

reading matthew 4 it really scares me. it says that satan knows the bible. how do we know if it is satan or god taking to use. if you what the preachers on tv. they are all good speakers, they speak well and have a good lesson. but some times if you you listen to them, what they say is just a little off. it scares me, how easy it is to just changing a word, or use a versus out of context, you can get the bible to say what you want it to say.

after the temptation, and bing in the dessert for 40 days not eating. the angels attend to jesus, what doses that mean. was it angel with wings and harps, or like the birds bring him food like the ravens.

matthw4 goes on to say that then he being teaching, did he not teach until after the temptation.

on a side note, about these blogs. i trying to ready these at face value. and as a whole book. i know other books have jesus preaching at a younger age. am i not trying to compare the different books, just tying to look at it at face valve. with new eyes.

18As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20At once they left their nets and followed him.

now simon called peter, huh what. so is his name simon or peter, or both. why not just call him simon. or if he changed his name to peter did he have to go down to the court house and change it legally. and how hard was it for him to get people to call him peter after he has benn called simon for so long.

i like being called a fisher of men. it is hard to live by, though it is hard to be a fisher of man. it is hard to talk to people about jesus with out getting a weird look. how do you do it, how do you talk about jesus and your own walk with god with strangers.

any ideas?

True that! But this is something we all have to fight with amongst ourselves – even on a personal level. I think we are all subject to our own interpretation and we have to be responsible enough to bring out what the passage is saying – which is tough sometimes. However, the difference between some comparison of the devil and God would simply be the easy question – what does the interpretation promote – good or bad? Even in the one example Jesus is asked to ‘kill himself’ by the devil – more or less – now that we can be sure is not something from God (since it does not promote life).

“now simon called peter, huh what. so is his name simon or peter, or both” (Wee man)

This is an interesting question. I think this is a matter of knowing why Peter might have two names – Simon and Peter or even Simon Peter. My guess is this would be about living in two worlds and identifying ones-self – since Peter was both Jewish and in a Roman culture. Or maybe this was normal for the Jewish community to do with names – have 2 to fulfill the meaning of the person’s name…in this case Simon and Peter – if put together likely mean something (I am guessing something + ‘rock).

“how do you talk about jesus and your own walk with god with strangers” (Wee Man)

I will talk about the teachings when asked – but I have more or less given up the talking points for the just living it. If people are really interested in this faith – they will both ask about what you believe and why your faith makes you such an interesting person.

That works some of the time. but about at he questions that are not answered in the bible. Like women's role in the church? Musical interments in the church? or even homosexual relationships?

My tradition tell me that these are bad. Reading the bible does not tell me that it is good or bad. so what do i do. Referring back ti matthew 4, could this be part of the "fire", figuring out what we believe?

That's the kind of groovy thing to be honest - how important are those issues if they never recieve any attention. I would say if we follow the idea 'treat others how we want to be treated' we would do well with anything issue we encounter.

What one needs to determine is what stand do we take on a woman's role...homosexuality...or music. For me, I always consider what others would like (ex: women to be treated as equals - this is good) and does what I do cause any problems (ex: playing rock music or even rap - they are musical genres - how can a genre of music be bad?). These ideas do not lead us into creating problems in relationships unless we take a line of reasoning that 'belittles' the other person we are talking with...and that's whats key.

My personal stand is to defend gay rights (they deserve all that I deserve), to support women in leadership rles (since that is treating somoene as an equal), and to listen or play whatever music I so choose (who can say what is good and bad about any music style).
