Mark 4:1-20

to switch gears, casue i am not sure the next step in my progression of my class. i am going to look at a passage that we studied in my sunday school class. the passage we looked at in mark is the parable of the Sower. Here is the passage we looked at:

Mark 4

The Parable of the Sower

1Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge. 2He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: 3"Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times."

9Then Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

10When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11He told them, "The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12so that,
" 'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'[a]"

13Then Jesus said to them, "Don't you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14The farmer sows the word. 15Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."

i learned many thing things and had thoughts about this today. we are going to take it a little at a time.

1Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge.

It looks like, he sat in the boat. for some reason i always thought he was standing. but it is prolly hard to stand in a small boat.

if you grown up in any church you know the parable of the sower. in my history we talk about the sower and the seed. but what about the soil. my questions is what soil type are you?

you can be different soils at different times. But what type are you right now?

Opening thoughts

i was driving home that other day, from my 8-5 job, and i was thinking about the church my wife and i go to. about how i can get evolved. but then my thought turned to the college ministry, why well a couple of weeks ago i ran in to a girl who is now in college. The last time i saw her she was in 7th grade. that makes em feel old. i also found out that her brother was at the same college. so i started thinking about my college life, and then i started thinking about my single life after college and before i got married. my back ground is in the church of christ, that is how i grew up. we are not perfect, but no one is. the coc does some good thing, good and some bad thing bad, and the coc does not do something at all. the coc is lacking in a good strong singles ministry. by singles i mean that age right out of college until your married . where you do not have kids, and your not in college any more. This is a lost age group in the coc, when i was in the singles group i felt like an out cast, since i was not married or have kids i was just a second class member. now i know then singles group is hard, cause we are all working, but there are some better ways to do singles coups out there. to start i think it is what is thought in sunday school, i know different churches do different things, and now most of the church studys the same thing in every class. but i think the coc needs to build a singles program from the ground up. there are plenty of single people in the bible who did great things. the singles need to study those people, and needs to study how to live a christen single life. sunday school need to teach the singles that being single is ok, is a good thing, not to get down that the world is tell you to go out and get drunk and sleep around, not to get the feeling that you are a second class member cause you do not have kids. i have this study, this feeling that i have had for years, about this class this bible study for singles, i keep coming back to paul. when the chruch thinks of single people in the bible they think of jesus christ and paul. over the next couple of weeks i hope to flush this idea and this class out to you on this blog.

with faith, hope, and love
