while reading matthew 5 i cam across this
13"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
now i have never really under stood this, i mean how does slat lose its saltness? then i started thinking about salt. and when i pout salt in my mouth, which at first is is salty then it loses it saltness. cause it dissolves, and my mouth is clean again, but what happen to the slat? it has no longer become salt it has become nothing. so how does men tramp on it, they do not , cause salt is no more. so are we dissolving are we becoming nothing, and how do we keep our saltness? good questions you might say, but i have no clue. i guess it is by teaching and reading and spending time with god.
later on in matthew 5 it it talks about committing adultery and divorce. how come it only talks about a man leaving his wife. now i understand that at the time is was a male society it that the only reason? so how does this work with that woman are created equal? i am not sure, but reading and exploring will help us find out. matthew 5 is packed with alot of good stuff to tlak about.
matthew 5:33 talks about othes, and how your yes be yea and no be nos. this is hard to live by, it is talking about being a person of your word. it is doing what you saying you will do. not just saying you will do something, but doing it.
the hardest thing in matthew 5 to read is :
43"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor[h] and hate your enemy.' 44But I tell you: Love your enemies[i] and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
it is hard to love someone who does not love you back. it is hard just to love someone who does not like you or even respect you. why is is hard, is it cause of society saying we need to take care of ourself first, is it the goal of justice, is it human nature. what what is it that keeps us from respecting each other. why do people feel like there better then some one else. i try i try hard to not think i am better then some one. i hope you do to.

“so are we dissolving are we becoming nothing, and how do we keep our saltness?” (Wee Man)
I have another take on this whole thing – and I think Jesus is using this line to sum up the beatitudes in Matt 5:1-12 (which I see as in index to the whole Matthew gospel). Here is the point I think is trying to be made ‘Cause if salt tastes like the rest of the food – then what good is that salt exactly?’ Your point about salt dissolving is part of it – but it dissolves into the rest of the food and does nothing to enhance it. The idea being that if these teachings do not change you so there is a marked difference between you and people outside of this faith – then what’s the use of that?

This is the very essence of the internal battle all humans face – ego. If you think about the world is all about you and what you can do with it – and consideration for others is something on the back-burner. We love ourselves – too much. Even humans need to find a balance where they love themselves but also love others as equally much. It’s not easy and no one gets there over-night – but it’s a model worth striving for and living by. To me Jesus seems to be showing us that violence will not solve the problems – but only continue them.
